Comparando alfarerías de contextos domésticos de la Aldea Piedra Negra para mediados y finales del primer milenio DC (Laguna Blanca, Catamarca)

Abstract

This article discusses the comparison of sequences or operational chains involved in the manufacture of ceramic materials from archaeological excavations from four different residential bases of the Aldea Piedra Negra, covering a range of time from VI to X century AD. The ceramic technology is considered as a social phenomenon, simultaneously material and symbolic. In this sense, the production and use of a technology is the expression of a social vision. From this point of view, the ceramics have meanings which are socially and historically contextualized. For the reconstruction of the operational chains we took into account the observation of processes and techniques: obtaining raw materials, preparing the ceramic paste, raising the vessel, decoration, treatment of the surface, cooking and post-cooking decoration. The analysis revealed us differences and similarities in the manufacturing technology providing data about the level of organization of ceramic production in the Aldea Piedra Negra.
