Abstract

The effect of sowing density and water salinity on biomass production, growth and sexual maturity of Colombian Artemia strains, was examined. In the laboratory, it was found that (P<0.05) when a low sowing density (10 nauplii/liter) and a salinity of 130°/oo are combined, there is a significant increase in growth, sexual maturity and biomass production in the three studied strains. However, the behavior of the Galerazamba strain was slightly different, showing higher biomass production and number of sexually mature females at 130°/oo and 50 nauplii/liter. Finally, based upon biometric differences and behavior under experimental culture, it is concluded that the Galerazamba strain is significantly different to the Manaure and Pozos Colorados strains.
