Abstract
ABSTRACT Microstrip antennas operating at 28 GHz for 5G applications are presented in this paper. Three different models of microstrip antennas with variations in slots are proposed. The operating frequency of 28 GHz is considered to be suitable for 5G antenna design. The low-cost FR4 substrate of dielectric constant of 4.4, thickness of 0.8 mm and loss tangent of 0.02 is used in the design. The performance of the antennas in terms of return loss, bandwidth, efficiency, gain, and directivity are analysed and compared. Slot configurations enhance the bandwidth and reduce the effective area. By introducing more number of slots in the design, the bandwidth gets enhanced than the existing design. The proposed designs are simulated using high-frequency structure simulator and antennas are compact in size with 7 × 7 mm.
