Abstract

A square patch antenna which resonates at two frequencies due to addition of metamaterial inspired structures is described here. This antenna integrates two triangular complimentary split ring resonators (CSRRs) in the ground plane of the square patch antenna. To expand the bandwidth of the ground resonator, the two CSRR frequencies are kept slightly apart from each other. The double bands are owing to the quasi-static resonance of the metamaterial resonator and the fundamental resonance of the patch antenna. The antenna has a compact measurement of 27 mm × 27 mm × 1.575 mm. This design brings up an uncomplicated approach to design dual and multi band antennas.
