Abstract

Communicology is the human science of embodied discourse. Method in this discipline is informed by philosophy of communication, structured by theory, and empirically grounded in qualitative logic. The philosophical basis is found in American pragmatism and European philosophy, theory in semiotics, and logic in the descriptive‐critical methodology of phenomenology. Communicology employs the a ppositional methodology of semiotic phenomenology to study the processes and events of communication that constitute human consciousness and that experientially and logically precede instrumental message‐bound views of communication. As a human science, focus is instead on the structure and meaning‐as‐lived of conscious experience.
