Abstract

On 24 June, 1971, the Council of Ministers of the European Communities passed a Resolution, which defined basic community- policy for “coordinating the actions of the Member States regarding scientific and technical information and documentation”. In particular, the Council asked the Member States to coordinate their actions in the following areas: (a) the creation and rational development of systems for scientific and technical information and documentation, so that a European Network could be established; (b) the establishment of rules and procedures to ensure the cohesiveness of such a network; (c) training of specialists and the education of users; (d) technological progress in the science and processing of documentation.
