Abstract

SUMMARYThis chapter discusses the importance of communication in innovative teaching strategies. Three general types of learning environments are discussed: interpersonal communication (one-to-one interactions), small group processes, and group presentations. Faculty and students must use effective communication skills in a variety of learning experiences including instruction, advising, and mentoring. The theoretical frameworks are discussed, as well as practical suggestions to enhance learning in new environments.
