Communication and trust: rethinking the way construction industry professionals and software vendors utilise computer communication mediums

Mobile gaming and digital music industries' innovation dynamics and growth show high potential of value network and induce new ways of designing and developing competitive value propositions throughout disruptive network-based innovation strategies. These network-based innovative strategies and processes rely on a large number of heterogeneous players that have the potential to lead to design and development of new products and services, throughout a network of capabilities set, by combining games with music contents, revolutionizing the current media entertainment sector and creating value and disruptive innovation. In view of that, mobile gaming sector dynamics and global market potential were analyzed throughout a wide set of analytical frameworks. Finally, there were discussed industrial integration and innovation processes, industrial clustering and agglomeration economics, which drive into regional innovation systems, economic knowledge, and R&D spillovers, that, ultimately, support blue ocean opportunities, while benefiting customers and key stakeholders through and societal impacts for the future.

Today, innovation is perceived as a source of competitive advantage for firms, playing a vital role in both the survival and growth of firms. A general look at the existing literature on innovation points toward a lack of studies that explore the risk and reward topic in the conformation of innovation portfolios in a firm. Hence, the main purpose of the present paper is to analyse the relationship between investment in innovation and the gain of the process and how this relationship is affected by the type of industry in which the firm operates and by the intervention of the authorities (legal protection of innovation). Among others, results indicate that, contrary to what could be expected, firms would tend to invest in disruptive innovation projects in hard innovative industries, wherein the potential, disruptive innovation is much harder to generate given the natural protection against potential competition that characterizes these industries. On the other hand, investment in disruptive innovation in soft innovative industries would require a framework of legal protection in accordance with the level of natural innovativeness of the industry. In terms of practical implications, the management of the legal protection would be socially desirable for achieving a balanced innovation development framework in the economy, as well as for resource allocations in disruptive innovation in industries where, although it is easier to be successful, its usufruct is difficult.

Islamic religious education in schools plays an important role in instilling religious values through effective communication between teachers and students and using appropriate media. This study aims to analyze the influence of communication styles (verbal and non-verbal) and communication media (print and electronic) of Islamic Religious Education teachers on students' religious attitudes in schools. The approach used is an associative quantitative approach to explore the relationship between these variables. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire with a Likert scale, selected to measure students' religious attitudes objectively. The research sample comprised 86 respondents, chosen through purposive sampling with specific criteria, such as students actively participating in lessons and at specific grade levels. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS, involving validity and reliability tests, classical assumptions, and multiple linear regression (including t-test and F-test). The analysis results show that the teachers' communication style has a significant and positive effect on students' religious attitudes (Sig. 0.000). In contrast, the communication media shows a significant but negative effect (Sig. 0.004). Simultaneously, both variables significantly affect students' religious attitudes (F-test, Sig. 0.000). These findings indicate that although a good communication style can improve students' religious attitudes, inappropriate communication media may negatively affect those attitudes. Therefore, teachers need to choose the right communication style and media, considering the context and characteristics of the students, to support the optimal development of religious character.

Ex ante identification of disruptive innovations in the software industry applied to web applications: The case of Microsoft's vs. Google's office applications

<p class="norm">The aim of this article is to shed some light on patterns of and major motives for the adoption of different types of disruptive learning innovations by Unisa academics. To realise the aim of the study, the following questions were addressed: What are the reasons for adopting disruptive learning innovations? What is the level of interaction with disruptive innovations? What training do Unisa academics require on disruptive innovations? A qualitative approach was adopted by conducting focus group interviews with 76 Unisa academics. The data was analysed using open and axial coding, where dominant themes from the discussions were identified and discussed in detail. The findings show that the interaction of Unisa lecturers with different technologies varied from technology to technology. The study also found that disruptive innovations play a pivotal role in opening avenues and collapsing the transactional distance in an ODL institution. Some lecturers lack skill in using some technology, which is a cause for concern. Therefore, lecturers need to be trained in using technology and develop a good understanding of it to improve teaching and learning.</p>

Product innovation in entrepreneurial firms: How business model design influences disruptive and adoptive innovation

The blockchain technology has the great potential to drive product innovation in various industries. This makes such an emerging technology play as an important enabler that drives the generation of new venture. Our study examines the effects of business model designs of blockchain-based entrepreneurial firms on the scope of product newness: disruptive innovation and adoptive innovation. To test such a relationship, we conduct a survey to collect data from 159 blockchain-based ventures. The findings indicate that the novel business model strongly entices disruptive innovation, but it does not influence blockchain-based adoptive product innovation. The results also indicate that the efficient business model strongly encourages blockchain-based product adoptive innovation, but it strongly discourages blockchain-based disruptive product innovation. Further, our analysis shows that the firm’s disruptive technological capability strengthens the positive relationship between the novel business model and disruptive product innovation, but it weakens the positive relationship among the design efficiency and adoptive innovation. Additionally, we found that the disruptive technological capability strongly entices blockchain-based entrepreneurial firms to favor disruptive product innovation over adoptive product innovation.

Open-source collaboration, as both an open and cooperative software development paradigm and a novel production model in the era of the industrial internet, plays a pivotal role in overcoming technological bottlenecks in the industrial software industry. However, previous studies have often treated open-source collaboration as a single unified concept and have not explored the specific types of open-source collaboration and their differential effects on technological innovation. To address these gaps, this study aims to answer two core research questions: (1) What are the different types of open-source collaboration models based on their characteristics? (2) How do these collaboration models influence technological innovation in the industrial software industry? Drawing upon four representative collaboration cases in the industrial software domain, this study conducts within-case and cross-case comparative analyses to propose a typological framework based on the dimensions of coreness and complementarity. The analysis identifies four distinct open-source collaboration models: (1) single-core with high complementarity, (2) single-core with low complementarity, (3) multi-core with high complementarity, and (4) multi-core with low complementarity. The formation of these models is shaped by three key factors: strategic intentions, resource endowments, and technological capabilities. Moreover, different collaboration types exert varied impacts on organizational characteristics, innovation strategies, and technological impacts. Theoretically, this study makes an original contribution by opening the “black box” of open-source collaboration and revealing the internal mechanisms through which it shapes innovation dynamics. Practically, the findings offer targeted insights for enterprises, policymakers, and open-source communities in selecting appropriate collaboration models that align with innovation goals, thereby supporting technological upgrading and ecosystem resilience in the industrial software industry.

Innovation has been described as a vehicle of development. This research therefore address the question of relevance of fourth industrial revolution in providing backbone for disruption that could make sustainable development goal 9 achievable. The purpose of the study is to marry the intervention of disruptive innovation within the context of fourth industrial revolution and how it could help achieve SDG goal 9. Quantitative approach was used in carrying out the research while random sampling technique was used to pick samples randomly across the study area. Sample frame of 100 was picked while sample size of 50 samples was picked from the population frame. Questionnaire designed in Likert scale 1–5 was used for the study. The following results were presented, the need for disruptive innovation in construction field, state of disruption in construction operation in construction industry, factors affecting technological disruption [td], level of awareness of disruptive technology in the built environment, critical success factor in application of disruptive technologies, major drivers of disruptive innovations in construction industry and their functionalities. The study later proposed route for deployment of disruptive application in sustainable construction and achieving millennium development goal through disruptive innovations. Disruptive innovation is the key to desired technological development.

Due to its extensive usage of high-tech, the music industry is often discussed in the innovation literature. Music, however, is not only about recording; it is also about means to create music: the instruments.When it comes to high-tech, the instrument industry is the antipodes of recording industry and most of the musical instruments are still very much the same as what they used to be centuries ago. Yet, the electric guitar industry provides a good example of a technological evolution which is both conservative and modern and the outcome of innovation in this industry greatly differs from other industries. In fact, the electric guitar represents an intense fusion between an already mature market, the guitar market, and disruptive technologies. Since its invention, in the early 1920s, the electric guitar has been the object of a constant struggle between conservatism and innovation. Its evolution also reflects the opposition between traditional labour-intensive craftsmanship, seen as a proof of quality, and the industrialised processes required by mass production.The two current market leaders, Fender and Gibson had an equal share of successful and failed innovations, with the best period in terms of innovation being when both Fender and Gibson based their innovations on their core competences. On the other hand, innovations that were inspired by the attempts to copy each other were bound to fail. Another reason for some of the failed innovations is companies' misunderstanding of customers needs. This paper examines the development paths taken by the two main electric guitar manufacturers, Gibson and Fender, and explores the reasons that led to this way of development, in particular changing users' tastes and Gibson's and Fender's attempts to increase their respective market share. In addition, the rate of innovation, and the evolution of this rate, is analysed for both companies. This research is based on two detailed case studies, that provide an overview of industry development, as well as an empirical analysis of the patent statistics related to these two companies.

The communication strategies employed by counselors play a pivotal role in outpatient rehabilitation programs. Effective communication is crucial for building trust, understanding clients, and achieving successful outcomes. The research method employed in this study is the qualitative research method, which is characterized by its logical and systematic approach to investigating or observing phenomena. Counselors play a crucial role in establishing a foundation of trust and understanding with their clients. This, in turn, positively influences the rehabilitation process. The incorporation of various communication techniques and mediums helps tailor messages to each client's specific needs and preferences. In conclusion, effective communication is at the heart of successful outpatient rehabilitation programs. Counselors must utilize a range of strategies to understand their clients, deliver tailored messages, and engage through various communication mediums.

Since the early years of the 21st century, the newspaper industries of Western liberal democracies have been in a perpetual crisis caused by disruptive digital innovators outside the industry. Until recently, the industry and researchers have conveyed a predominantly pessimistic view of the future. This paper argues that after numerous unsuccessful innovations, the industry is now in the middle of a global paradigm shift with a huge impact on journalism as a business and showing a promising path forward. The new “Readers First Paradigm” is replacing “Advertisers First” The former constitutes a new way of doing business, consisting of two main changes: a revised value proposition focusing on reader preferences and subscriptions; a fully digitized operational model built around AI and machine learning. The article shows that until recently, the paradigm shift has been largely overlooked by researchers in the field. Further, a theoretical framework of industrial paradigm shifts is developed to describe and explain the new paradigm’s emergence and growth. Additionally, a generic “ideal-type” systemic description of the paradigm is provided, identifying the individual components and how they work together.
