Abstract

Abstract Traffic congestion has become a major problem in most of the metropolitan cities throughout the world. It hampers the smooth mobility of the citizens as well as has an adverse environmental impact. To deal with the traffic congestion problem, a multimodal transportation system can be adopted where citizens can avail multiple modes of public transport or a combination of public and private transport instead of using a personal car to reach their destination. In multimodal transportation system, one of the important services is a common ticketing service. The common ticketing service allows the citizens to travel seamlessly in multimode of transport with a single common ticket for their whole journey. For that, this paper proposes a common ticketing service that will issue a single ticket for the whole journey and it determines the total price of that ticket in a multimodal journey for all the users in the system. Also it determines the total amount that each mode of transport will receive for providing the service to the commuters. It avoids the hassle of buying tickets separately for each mode of transport.KeywordsMultimodal transportation systemCommon ticketing systemTraffic congestion
