Abstract

The authors of the title paper (Materials Letters 178 (2016) 264–267) claim to have grown a barium calcium borate (BCB) single crystal by mixing barium chloride and calcium chloride dihydrate in 11:1 mol ratio with an excess of boric acid in water. In this comment, many points of criticism, concerning the crystal growth reaction and the characterization data for the so-called BCB crystal are discussed to prove that it is a dubious material.
