Abstract

The question of utilizing optimal linear regulator theory as a design tool for pole placement is addressed. In particular, Johnson's recently published results on eliminating heretofore unreachable regions are discussed. It is pointed out that his extension is achieved only through a crucial change in the optimal linear regulator problem statement.
