Abstract
This paper emphasizes that a gain-proration technique is required to correct the interstage gain error that occurs when multiple stages of a multistep analog-to-digital converter (ADC) are calibrated. It is shown that the interstage gain error critically affects ADC linearities, even if there is no other error including digital truncation errors except the interstage gain error. It is contrary to the comments in the commented paper [see ibid., vol. 46, p. 1114-7, 1999].
