Abstract

I read in News section of June EOS, (page 462) an item on ‘The First Southern Hemisphere Tidal Observatory.’The Australian observatory is actually the second one. In January 1971 operation of the earth tides station in Tucumán, Argentina, began, with two horizontal pendulums (Verbaandert‐Melchior) and an Askania gravimeter, under the auspices of the Instituto de Geodesia y Topografía (Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Tecnología) of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán.
