Abstract

We congratulate Drs Iwuala & Taylor for their review 'Structural and functional differences in skin of colour'. In support of this work, biochemical studies conducted on human volar forearms rather than faces were referenced. Here we share aspects of our own research studying largely facial skin of women living in South Africa that we feel are relevant to the discussion on the differences in the structure and function of the stratum corneum (SC) among differently pigmented skin types.
