Abstract
In the late summer of 1973, the American Institute of Physics requested that John Clarence Karcher prepare a “first person account” of his life and career, detailing in particular his efforts and contributions toward the perfection of the reflection seismograph. Dr. Karcher’s memoir on this subject gives many fascinating descriptions of geophysical history as he remembers it. That this relatively short scientific history should leave out some of the prominent co‐workers in the field and fail to give due credit to others is completely understandable. My Comment may fill in a few gaps.
