Abstract
ABSTRACT This comment extends the discussion initiated by Berger and colleagues (2022) on the social norms shaping expectations and possibilities for working mothers’ occupations, by examining how these norms shape not only their mothering occupations but also their work occupations. We critically discuss the societal expectations concerning women’s employment and the persisting racial and class inequalities embedded within the sphere of women’s labour. We emphasize the importance of an intersectional as well as reflexive approach to participants’ positionality for a truly critical examination of the social norms shaping occupational possibilities.
