Abstract

Present paper reports the luminescence characteristics of Al4B2O9:Eu3+ phosphor prepared by simple and inexpensive combustion method. The photoluminescence results revealed two emission peaks, one at 591 nm (5D0 → 7F1) and other at 614 nm (5D0 → 7F2) in the visible red region under excitation wavelength of 396 nm (7F0 → 5L6). The colour coordinates for 591 nm and 614 nm wavelength were found to be (x = 0.580, y = 0.418) and (x = 0.677, y = 0.322) respectively. These results demonstrate the possibility for enhancing the solid state lighting and utilizing the UV source for light emitting diode (LED).
