Abstract
ABSTRACT School counselors can utilize creative interventions to support culturally and linguistically diverse students’ (CLDS) development. The authors describe three protective factors and illustrate how the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) can facilitate school counselors’ use of creative interventions as microlevel advocacy. The vignettes demonstrate supportive strategies for CLDS racial-ethnic identity, language use, and belonging. The vignettes are described through multi-tiered system of support such as individual, small-group, and teacher consultation. The authors conclude with implications for school counselors and counselor educators, emphasizing a need for more outcome research to enhance understanding of creative interventions effectiveness with CLDS.
