Abstract

The research paper has addressed on combined action of automatic generation control (AGC) and economic load dispatch (ELD) of an interconnected power system in a common research frame. Different control actions need to be employed to pertain necessary controls in the power system. In this regard, current research paper proposes a robust Proportional Integral and Derivative (PID) controller as primary and secondary controller for this combined research work. The primary PID controller especially meant for only ELD concern, however the secondary PID controller works for the AGC analysis. The function of the primary controller is to control the generation of plant with optimum and cost effective without violating the generation limit. Whereas the responsibility of the secondary controller is maintain stability over system frequency and scheduled tie-line power under any uncertainties. Further, the paper has suggested a novel water cycle algorithm (WCA) to select optimal parameters of the proposed PID controller under any operating situations. Finally, various comparative studies have been synthesized to defend supremacy of the proposed PID controller over PI controller.
