Abstract

Through a suitable design, the intricate nature of multiple photon scattering in a nano-patterned structure is described by the archetypal model of the quantum harmonic oscillator. An effective harmonic potential confines the light in spectrally equi-spaced resonances with Hermite-Gauss envelopes. Extremely strong nonlinear interactions and ultra-low power threshold for parametric oscillation are predicted, owing to the very small size of the resonator.
