Abstract
Fifty five consecutive patients (mean age 70 ± 12 yr) with hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic coma were studied retrospectively to identify prognostic factors. Age, admission levels of blood glucose, plasma osmolality, serum sodium were no related to death. Prognostic factors were shock, coma, acute respiratory falture and simplified acute physiology score.
