Abstract
This article focuses on the national political transformation in the so-called “liberal republic” from the perspectives of the emergent ideologies at the heart of the radical liberalism, as well as the moderate principles of the traditional liberalism. There is a historical reflection on the role of liberalism at the start of the protectionist policies in the Colombian society, how they were influenced by foreign policies and the development of this project within the model of national modernization.
