Abstract

ABSTRACT In this work we describe the stability of positively charged polystyrene particles dispersed in aqueous binary mixtures (50% v/v) of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol. Rate constants for rapid coagulation are found to be 20-50% of those predicted by the Smoluchowski theory. The dependence of W (stability factor) on ionic strength and liquid composition has been compared with the predictions of DLVO theory.
