Abstract

The highly asymmetrical primitive model of colloid–counterion mixturesis solved using the advanced integral equation proposed by Barrat etal(Barrat J L, Hansen J P and Pastore G 1988 Mol. Phys. 63 747–67). Theapproximate bridge functions are expressed in terms of three-particle directcorrelation functions, themselves derived from a factorization ansatz andthermodynamical relations. Comparisons with the bare HNC and previousimproved closures as well as with recent Monte Carlo simulation dataillustrate the efficiency of this equation for the precise determination of thestructural and equilibrium properties of highly charged colloidal systems.
