Abstract
The method of Purcell and Rogers for calculating collisional excitation of low-energy permitted transitions by charged particles is generalized so that it can be used for any such transition with the use of tables presented here. The limitations of the method are discussed, and examples of current astro- physical interest, such as the excitation of interstellar OH, CII, and CN, are presented
