Abstract
The early collision warning is an effective way to reduce traffic accidents for Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV), so it is of significance for studying the collision warning system based on vehicular networking. As two crucial indicators of collision warning, warning reliability and warning lead time have great impacts on vehicle collision rates. This paper proposes a collision warning approach for CAV based on vehicular networking and aims to lower vehicle collision rates by enhancing warning reliability and accuracy of warning lead time. The approach exploits various metrics to enhance warning reliability, reducing the number of relays involved in issuing warnings to avoid data transmission failure caused by traffic congestion. Moreover, the accuracy of warning lead time is enhanced by exploiting the information-centric mechanism to perform warning fusion. Finally, the CAV-based collision warning system is evaluated to justify its superiority.
