Abstract

AbstractA novel high gain printed dipole array antenna for omni directional coverage is presented. The dipoles are electromagnetically fed by planar slots, formed on a 50 Ω microstrip transmission line. The impedance characteristics and radiation patterns of the antenna are analyzed numerically with finite element method and compared with the measurement. The unbalanced feed point of the antenna is fed directly with a small co‐axial cable. The antenna demonstrates good impedance and pattern bandwidth of 300 MHz from 2.25–2.55 GHz and is suitable for ISM band/WLAN operation. The optimum impedance matching can be achieved by increasing the width of the 50 Ω line around the feed point and thereby altering feed point impedance. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
