Abstract
The book is No. 17 of the excellent series of “Studies from the Institute for Medical Research, Federated Malay States”; and, being of the same attractive form and binding as the other volumes of this series, can but increase the value to the scientific medical world. As stated by the authors in their preface, the papers included have been selected from their contributions to the literature of beri-beri from the year 1907 onwards. The selections made for inclusion in this volume are admirable; and the papers are arranged in the chronological order of their original publication, the first having appeared in 1919, and the last being dated 1918.To no one familiar with the literature of beri-beri and with the history of that disease and its final conquering need anything be said of the monumental and decisive work of Fraser and Stanton; to them belongs without question credit for the absolute proof, not only of the etiology of beri-beri, but also of the efficacy of methods suggested by them for its prevention, cure, and ultimate eradication from the world.
