Abstract

It has been pointed out by Gross1 that one incentive for studying collagen intensively is the possibility that such knowledge eventually might be applied in the fight against congenital malformations, rheu matic diseases and aging. From the point of view of dentistry, chronic destructive periodontal disease should be added to this list. There is little doubt that true understanding and control of periodontal disease will depend in part on the devel opment of new knowledge concerning collagen, connective tissue and bone. This review attempts to cite some of the cur rent literature concerning these tissues.
