Abstract
A case of ileal atresia associated with duplication is reported. A review of the literature revealed similar previously reported cases. As an accidental coincidence of both intestinal malformations appears to be unlikely, pathogenetic theories explaining both are discussed. Duplication is considered to be the basic abnormality, probably due to defective development of the notochord. Atresia, however, may be the result of a “vascular accident” caused by the latter.
