Abstract

We present our investigation of active beam combining of fiber amplifiers. A modelling allows to calculate the near field and far field distributions of a large number of fiber amplifiers collimated by a lens array. This analysis permits to determine the influences of the key parameters on the combining efficiency. Then the principle of coherent beam combining by active phase control is experimentally demonstrated with four single-mode Er,Yb-doped fiber amplifiers operating at 1.5 μm.
