Abstract

Cognitive dysfunction, dementia and depression are typical comorbidities of diabetes and are more common in older people with diabetes than in the general population. Both comorbid diseases have asubstantial impact on the therapy of diabetes and lead to areduction of the functional level in everyday life, the quality of life and are associated with increased mortality. This article summarizes the most important results on the etiology of cognitive dysfunction and depression and their consequences for clinical practice.
