Abstract

The diffusion coefficient of iron in α- uranium at 645 °C measured by Buckle's method is 3 × 10 −10 cm 2/s . This value is close to that obtained for cobalt and more than 10 3 times larger than the self-diffusion coefficient at the same temperature. The diffusion is anisotropic and a preferential diffusion exists along the grain boundaries.
