Abstract
Codium giraffa sp. nov., from tropical Pacific Mexico, is characterized by axes that are terete or somewhat compressed, simple or sparsely branched, but often proliferous. Distinctive anatomical features include large pestle-shaped utricles with elongated necks, absence of hairs, and the relatively low position of gametangia on utricles (0 · 6–0 · 8 of the distance from apex to base). Correlations between gross morphology and anatomy in the genus as a whole are discussed.
