Abstract

Abstract Odunsi, A.A. and Longe, O.G. 1995. Cocoa bean cake in poultry diets. 2: Effects of feeding cocoa bean cake on growth and laying performance of pullets. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 7: 137–144. This study examined the inclusion of cocoa bean cake in the diets of grower pullets and the effects of such feeding on subsequent laying performance. Cocoa bean cake showed no deleterious effect on performance of grower pullets when included up to 10% level. At 20% level of inclusion, feed intake and weight gain were significantly (P<0.05) reduced while efficiency of feed utilisation was the poorest. Mortality did not follow any particular pattern. The use of cocoa bean cake in grower diets markedly increased age at sexual maturity and weight of first egg laid. The rate of egg production, egg weight, feed consumption and egg quality indices were not significantly (P>0.05) affected.
