Abstract

A growing regional network of cobalt-60 service irradiation centers is becoming available to support radiation requirements of medical device producers. The presentation discusses the general capabilities a service company should be able to provide, and compares advantages of in-house versus service irradiation centers. A method to accomplish an economic evaluation between contract ETO and cobalt-60 sterilization is presented, as well as an outline of a general plan to qualify a product for gamma sterilization.
