Abstract

A new 3d transition-metal based molybdate-tellurite compound Co3(Mo2O8)(TeO3) has been obtained through a conventional hydrothermal method. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system with space group C2/m and shows a zigzag chain structure built by CoO6 octahedra, while MoO6 octahedra form a centrosymmetric tetranuclear butterfly unit of [Mo4O16]8- and TeO3 trigonal pyramids are isolated in the framework. The results of magnetic and heat capacity measurements confirmed that Co3(Mo2O8)(TeO3) possesses a long-range antiferromagnetic ordering at TN ~16.3 K.
