Abstract
Abstract Bis-chelates of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) with the thiol form of propiophenone or butyrophenone thiosemicarbazones have been synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, magnetic moments, electronic and electron spin resonance spectral studies. All the complexes are found to have composition ML2, where M[dbnd]Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II) or Pt(II) and L[dbnd]deprotonated thiosemicarbazones of propiophenone (PTSC) or butyrophenone (BTSC). The Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes are paramagnetic and may have polymeric octahedral and square planar geometries. The Ni(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes are diamagnetic and presumably have square planar geometry. Pyridine adducts (ML2.2Py) of Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes have also been prepared and characterised.
