Abstract
Various sources of TiO/sub 2/ have been used to prepare catalytically active species of Ni-TiO/sub 2/ for studies of the reaction mechanisms of CO hydrogenation reactions. The results of the chemisorption studies indicated that the support can alter somewhat the catalytic behavior of certain metals in the methanation reactions. Data for the Ni-TiO/sub 2/ catalyzed hydrogenation reactions do not give a normal distribution plot with respect to carbon number in the products serving as evidence of a chain-growth process modification. These effects cannot be explained by simple polymer kinetics; but they are not unique to the Ni-TiO/sub 2/ catalyst, since they have also been observed with Ru-TiO/sub 2/ catalysts. Some support-metal interaction is evident, but it is not understood at this time. (BLM)
