Abstract

A new approach to describe the compound nucleus formation process, where clustering aspects of the nucleus are taken into account, is worked out. It is shown that quantitative differences between the compound nucleus cross-section of232Th and238U, as observed in recent photofission experiments, could be due to the different cluster preformation probabilities of these nuclei.
