Abstract No evidence is found for significant pairing of quasars in a sample of 175 UV-excess objects of which perhaps about 80% are quasars. The space densities of quasars and giant elliptical galaxies brighter than an absolute visual magnitude of -23 are compared, and it is predicted that clustering of quasars should become important somewhere between V magnitudes of 20 and 23. The possible association of steep-spectrum, flat-spectrum, and radio-quiet quasars with giant elliptical galaxies is considered on the basis of observational data. It is concluded that the subset of steep-spectrum quasars is related to giant ellipticals.
