Closure to “Measured and Computed Lateral Response of a Pile Group in Sand” by Kyle M. Rollins, J. Dusty Lane, and Travis M. Gerber

Abstract

The authors agree with the discussers, regarding the p-multipliers and their tendency to decrease as pile head deflection increases. However, the authors note that the deflection curves generated by the Strain Wedge Model (SWM) appear to be somewhat lower than the p-multipliers shown in Brown et al. (1988) for the same load test. Because of this apparent inconsistency with p-multiplier applications used in other models, the authors recommend caution in using SWM-produced p-multipliers until additional comparison testing can be conducted.
