By extensive Monte Carlo analysis, the authors show that “a method of mixed moments estimator is the best estimator not employing regional skew information and, remarkably, is competitive with the Bulletin 17B estimator that employs reasonable skew information.” The discusser stumbled upon the idea that the log-Pearson type 3 LP3 distribution parameters could be estimated without using the skew coefficient by mixing the moments of log and real space after reading Bobee’s paper 1975 on the LP3 distribution in real space.
