Abstract
This paper delves into the divisions within the Brazilian business sphere that emerged with the far-right’s ascent to power in the late 2010s. While some business actors openly supported the Bolsonaro administration’s agenda, others voiced criticism, particularly regarding environmental and health policies. What social factors underlie this cleavage? Utilizing an original dataset built from public information on Bolsonaro supporters and critics, cross-tabulations and Multiple Correspondence Analysis were conducted. The findings suggest that supporters are comparatively smaller businesses with lower cultural resources, while critics generally hail from large corporations with more cultural resources. Additionally, the critic group was found to be more heterogeneous than the supporter group.
