Clinical study on MAE regimen for treatment in acute leukemia

Abstract

Objective To observe the curative effect and side effects of MAE regimen for treatment in acute leukemia. Methods Thirty patients were administrated with MAE (mitoxantrone, eloposide and cytarabine)regimen and followed up. Results ①20 cases of 30 patients achieved complete remission(CR) ,5 cases achieved partial remission(PR). So the CR rate, PR rate and total effective rate were 66.7%, 16.7%, 83.7% ; ②Side effects : counting from the beginning of MAE regime ,it was on the 9th day (median) that WBC count fell down below 1.0 x 109/L and it lasted 8 days (median). These two indexes came to 9th day. 9 days when ANC count fell down below 0.5 × 109/L,and 10 th day. 8 days when PLT count fell down below 20 × 109/L. 3 patients died. Conclusion MAE is an effective regimen for untreated, relapsed and resistant AL. But it can cause severe bone marrow depression and hematologic side effects. Thus intensive supportive care is essential for application of MAE regimen. Key words: Acute leukemia; Mitoxantrone; Side effect
