Abstract
Objective To investigate the surgical effect of proximal interhalangeal joint arthrodesis using mini-titanium plates and screws. Methods The proximal interphalangeal joint of 44 digits in 29 male patients were fused with contoured mini-titanium plates and screws.All the arthrodesis was done via a dorsal approach. Results All 29 patients were followed up for 4 to 7 months.There were no infection and skin necrosis.Clinical union of the arthrodesis took 6 to 8 weeks,while bony union on X-ray was achieved by 2 to 3 months.No delayed union,nonunion or deformed union was seen. Conclusion This surgical procedure is straight forward and easy to master.It reduces bony union time,incidence of nonunion,malunion,needle track infection and osteomyelitis.
