Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of abdominal massage combined with acupoint heat sensitive moxibustion in treating primary dysmenorrhea. Methods 80 patients were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group, with two cases in each group and 40 cases in each group. The experimental group was treated with abdominal massage combined with acupoint heat-sensitized moxibustion, while the control group was treated with Yueyueshu Granule orally. The menstrual cycle was one course of treatment, with a total of three courses. The scores of dysmenorrhea symptoms, the improvement of visual analogue scale for pain assessment (VAS) and the occurrence of adverse reactions were observed before and after treatment in both groups. Results After treatment, the scores of dysmenorrhea symptoms and severity of dysmenorrhea in both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment, and the experimental group was superior to the control group (F=16.615、36.120, all P<0.05); during the follow-up period, the difference of dysmenorrhea symptoms between the two groups was statistically significant (F=8.339, P<0.05); after treatment, the experimental group was better than the control group. The effective rate was 84.21(32/38)%, which was better than 41.67(15/36)% in the control group (Z=- 4.086, P<0.05). After 3 months of treatment, the patients were followed up. The experimental group was well controlled and no recurrence occurred. The control group had 3 cases of recurrence. Conclusion Abdominal massage combined with acupoint heat sensitive moxibustion is effective in treating primary dysmenorrhea. Key words: Tui Na; Moxibustion; Dysmenorrhea
