Abstract
Objective To investigate the association of serum tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-6(IL-6) and IL-8 levels in children with bronchopneumonia. Methods Serum TNF-α,IL-6 and IL-8 contents were measured by radioimmunity method in 60 children with bronchopneumonia(mild and severe) and 30 controls. Results Serum levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 in children with mild and severe bronchopneumonia were significantly higher than those in controls(all P <0.01). Serum levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 were significantly higher in children with severe bronchopneumonia than those in children with mild bronchopeumonia(all P <0.01). Serum levels of TNF-α,IL-6 and IL-8 were positively correlated with each other in children with bronchopneumonia (all P < 0. 001 ). Conclusions TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 have important roles in children with bronchopneumonia. Determination of serum TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 levels might have important prognostic values in children with bronchopneumonia. Key words: Bronchopneumonia; Tumor necrosis factor-ailnterleukin-6; Interleukin-8
