Abstract

Objective To study the clinical significance and expression level of zinc finger protein 217 (ZNF217) in colorectal cancer. Methods Western blotting was applied to detect the expression level of ZNF217 protein in 10 paired cases of fresh colorectal cancer and para-cancerous normal mucosae, and immunohistochemical method was applied to detect ZNF217 protein in 114 cases of colorectal cancer, paracancerous normal mucosae and metastatic lymph nodes. Results In colorectal cancer, there were 81,38 and 51 cases of high expression of ZNF217 protein in fresh colorectal cancer, normal mucosae and metastatic lymph nodes respectively. The expression level of ZNF217 in para-cancerous mucosae was obviously lower than that in colorectal cancer and metastayiv lymph nodes (P < 0.05).High expression cases of ZNF217 protein with distant metastasis,Dukes stage C and D,lymph node metastasis and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) > 5 μg/L were respectively 41,53,58 and 45,and survival time of in the patients with ZNF217 high expression and low expression was respectively (31.8 ± 7.6) months and (49.7 ± 8.5)months.The higher the ZNF217 expression was,the higher the dead risk was.The ZNF217 expression level in colorectal cancer was closely related to distant metastasis,Dukes stage, lymph node metastasis,CEA and survival time (P < 0.05).Furthermore,ZNF217 was an independent prognosis factor. Conclusion Up-regulated ZNF217 may well result in occurrence, progress, metastasis of colorectal cancer, and shorter survival time. Key words: Zinc finger protein 217 ; Colorectal cancer
