<h3>Head Irradiation of the Burro with Cobalt-60</h3> Lt. Col. U. S. G. Kuhn, III, V.C., U.S.A.F., Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., and Daniel G. Brown, D.V.M., Oak Ridge, Tenn. THE RESPONSE of burros (<i>Equus asinus asinus</i>) exposed to neutron-gamma radiation from an atomic detonation was distinguished by a high incidence of central nervous system (CNS) disturbance and early (24 hours) mortality.<sup>1</sup>On the basis of previous total-body irradiation studies,<sup>2-8</sup>a dramatic early mortality response was generally unexpected. The exposure to radiation from an atomic device introduced 2 factors which had not been previously studied with burros: an instantaneous dose and irradiation with neutrons.
